About this role
ActBlue, a nonprofit organization dedicated to building cutting-edge technology for Democratic victories and progressive causes, seeks a Senior Manager, Product to lead the Downballot & Trust domain. This player-coach role reports to the Director of Product and balances direct management of a product manager group with hands-on product work.
You will set and execute a strategic vision for your domain, moving from insight to decision to implementation across the full software development lifecycle. This includes managing 0-to-1 products and maturing established ones, while teaching others to do the same.
You will collaborate with engineering and operations leadership on organizational design, recruiting, and onboarding, and serve as an escalation point for cross-platform initiatives. The role involves managing key stakeholder relationships across senior leadership and multiple departments.
You will ensure the continued growth and career development of your product managers, offering strategic thought leadership on Downballot products to connect the work of multiple teams. This role is central to helping downballot candidates win elections and shaping the future of democracy.
Requirements
- Deep experience in every aspect of the full software development lifecycle for both 0-to-1 products and maturing established products, from planning through go-to-market and post-launch iteration.
- Ability to enter into an ambiguous space, ramp up quickly, and set a strategic vision rooted in user needs, data insights, and business context.
- Proven ability to move quickly from insight to decision to implementation, and to execute those steps yourself while teaching others to do the same.
- Experience directly managing and coaching product managers, with a focus on creating and implementing strategy in alignment with departmental initiatives.
- Strong collaboration skills with engineering and operations leadership on organizational design, recruiting, and onboarding.
- Experience serving as an escalation point for cross-platform initiatives and managing key stakeholder relationships across senior leadership and multiple departments.
- Ability to define meaningful product KPIs and evaluate effectiveness through product instrumentation, data analysis, and user research.
- Skill in proactively identifying and resolving roadblocks and technical dependencies within a team's roadmap, and working cross-functionally to manage trade-offs between organization and customer needs with technical and resource constraints.
Responsibilities
- Directly manage a group of product managers responsible for closely-related areas of the ActBlue Downballot offering and Trust initiatives, including creating and implementing the team's strategy in alignment with the Product Department's initiatives.
- Collaborate with the Director of Product and equivalent partners in engineering and operations leadership on organizational design, recruiting, and onboarding new hires.
- Serve as the points of contact and escalation for cross-platform initiatives and help manage key stakeholder relationships across senior leadership and multiple departments.
- Ensure the continued growth and career development of the product managers on your team.
- Offer strategic thought leadership on Downballot products to product department leaders in identifying, articulating, and socializing product vision and strategy, and connecting the dots between the product work of multiple teams to help downballot candidates win elections.
- Mobilize your team to execute swiftly and embrace iterative development.
- Define meaningful product KPIs and evaluate the effectiveness of your initiatives through product instrumentation, data analysis, and user research, driving strategic roadmap investments to improve those KPIs over time.
- Write clear and concise product requirements focused on framing the user need, context, constraints, opportunities, and goals, and effectively communicate them to senior leaders, designers, data scientists, and developers for all cross-product platform work.
