About this role

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Underwriting Director to lead our Religious Markets segment. This role is responsible for delivering profitable growth, building strong distribution relationships, and developing underwriting talent within a specialized and evolving market.

In this role, you will direct underwriting teams to achieve established production and growth objectives while maintaining strong underwriting discipline. You will monitor and manage portfolio performance, including growth, retention, and profitability, and guide decision-making on risk selection, pricing, and coverage structure.

You will build and develop a team of underwriters aligned to business objectives, establishing clear expectations and driving accountability. You will also maintain and expand relationships with broker partners and distribution sources, supporting new business development and retention through consistent market engagement.

This role offers direct impact on business performance and underwriting results, with leadership responsibility for both talent and portfolio outcomes. You will have the opportunity to influence strategy and execution within a specialized market segment, with a high level of interaction with broker partners and senior leadership.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience leading production-focused underwriting teams with a track record of achieving growth and profitability objectives
  • Strong underwriting background, including complex risks, large accounts, and/or program business
  • Established relationships within the broker and distribution community
  • Ability to balance growth objectives with risk selection and underwriting discipline
  • Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills
  • Proven ability to operate effectively in a results-driven environment

Responsibilities

  • Lead profitable growth execution by directing underwriting teams to achieve established production and growth objectives while maintaining strong underwriting discipline
  • Monitor and manage portfolio performance, including growth, retention, and profitability
  • Develop and lead underwriting talent by building a team aligned to business objectives, establishing clear expectations, and driving accountability
  • Manage key broker relationships by maintaining and expanding relationships with broker partners and distribution sources
  • Support new business development and retention through consistent market engagement
  • Provide underwriting leadership by guiding decision-making on risk selection, pricing, and coverage structure
  • Ensure consistency with underwriting standards and business strategy
  • Oversee complex business by managing underwriting activities for large schedules, complex risks, and program business
