About this role
We are looking for a team-player to develop their skills in administration, communication and organisation within the School Admissions Team. This apprenticeship lasts around 18 months, with the role starting in October 2026, and upon completion you will become an Admissions Support Officer.
Day-to-day you will deal with enquiries from parents, carers, schools and Cornwall Council colleagues, supporting the processing of over 16,000 school place applications each year. You will gather and analyse information, liaise with schools, and communicate with families, using Outlook, Excel, Teams and our Education Management System regularly.
You will work remotely from the team, keeping in contact virtually, and meet face to face at least once a fortnight for training and team meetings. Initial training takes place in our Truro office, and you will also attend Truro College for face-to-face learning as part of the apprenticeship.
This role is ideal for someone who is goal-driven and enjoys being busy, as we have statutory deadlines and our own targets for excellent customer service. Above all, we work together to ensure that time children are out of school is kept to a minimum.
Requirements
- Eligible for apprenticeship funding (previous qualifications and experience will be considered)
- Comfortable working remotely from the team and keeping in contact virtually
- Able to meet face to face at least once a fortnight for training and team meetings
- Goal-driven and enjoys being busy with statutory deadlines
- Strong organisational and administrative skills
- Commitment to excellent customer service and data protection
Responsibilities
- Deal with enquiries from customers including parents, carers, schools and Cornwall Council colleagues
- Support the processing of school place applications by gathering and analysing information
- Liaise with schools and communicate with parents and carers regarding applications
- Use Outlook, Excel, Teams and the Education Management System on a daily basis
- Administer admission appeals and waiting lists
- Identify children missing education as part of safeguarding duties
- Travel to Truro College for face-to-face learning and to New County Hall for training and team meetings
