About this role
The California ISO manages electricity flow across 80 percent of California's power grid, safeguarding 30 million Californians with 24/7 reliable operations. As Senior Software Quality Assurance Engineer, apply test engineering and product knowledge to design tests and strategies for validating production software. Ensure alignment with CAISO quality practices including security, performance, integration, and functional testing for adapters.
Plan and execute optimal levels of security, integration, and performance tests, assessing results and recommending improvements to address variances. Establish and maintain software test automation and performance test engineering code base. Lead technical improvements for enterprise test methodology, procedures, guidelines, and tools.
Lead testing teams to ensure software meets quality standards and drives defect escape rate reductions. Provide technical or process training to staff as required. Operate in a hybrid schedule within an impartial grid operator environment committed to work/life integration.
Assess appropriate testing depth for software releases with Quality Assurance Lead input. Optimize test sequencing and scope to lower total cost of quality. Contribute to sustained operational excellence in a vital infrastructure role.
Requirements
- Test engineering and product knowledge for designing tests and testing strategies
- Technical and process knowledge to align testing with security, performance, integration, and functional practices
- Experience establishing and maintaining software test automation and performance test engineering code bases
- Ability to assess appropriate level and depth of testing for software releases
- Expertise leading technical improvements in enterprise test methodology, procedures, guidelines, and tools
- Skills in test planning, execution, and optimization for high-reliability software
- Knowledge of quality assurance practices for production software in grid operations
Responsibilities
- Plan and execute optimum level of Security, Integration, and Performance Tests, assess results, and recommend areas for prioritization and performance tuning
- Lead technical aspects of test planning, determine quantity and quality of tests, and ensure requirements are testable
- Estimate Integration, Security, Performance, and Functional tests for adapters as well as Test Automation efforts
- Lead testing teams related to quality of tests and test records to meet ISO standards and reduce defect escape rates
- Establish and maintain ISO Performance and Test Automation framework, perform code-reviews and maintenance of scripts
- Establish and maintain ISO product baseline tests and incremental test labs/cases for software security, performance, and integration
- Provide technical or process training to other staff as required
- Optimize sequencing and scope of technical testing to drive lower Total Cost of Quality
