Developer Advocate - Remote
3w3 weeks agoMetabase
US · Full-time · $135,000 – $190,000
About this role
Metabase is the easiest way for people to get insights from their data, from tiny startups to major corporations. We bring data tools with the elegance and simplicity of consumer products to the world of enterprise business intelligence.
As a Developer Advocate, you'll show up where developers already spend time, contributing real value and building long-term trust. Your day-to-day involves creating practical tutorials, videos, and demos, as well as editing content from internal engineers and guest contributors.
You'll develop and execute plans to build and nurture Metabase's developer community through events, livestreams, and social media. You'll be genuinely helpful in Slack, forums, Reddit, Discord, and YouTube, building real relationships with developers and community leaders.
This role offers the opportunity to represent Metabase at events as a credible practitioner, not a booth rep, and to bring honest community feedback back to the product team. You'll help shape a product used by tens of thousands of companies while growing as a teacher, builder, and learner.
Requirements
- You've worked with data: comfortable with SQL, databases, metrics, and analytics workflows, and can talk about them in a way that earns respect from working developers and analysts
- Experience building community across some combination of Twitter/X, YouTube, Twitch, Discord, blogs, meetups, public speaking, and live events
- Communication style that is clear, direct, and human
- Identifies as a teacher and a learner, a builder and a doer
- Empathetic, inclusive, and warm, with a genuine desire to help people from beginners to senior engineers
- Good judgment about when and how to engage, and what to share publicly to maintain credibility and trust
Responsibilities
- Create content that developers and analysts actually want: practical tutorials, clear explanations, honest opinions, and demos grounded in real use cases
- Act as an editor and curator for internal engineers, guest contributors, and other advocates, validating technical claims and testing code snippets
- Produce video content including screencasts, shorts, and explainers that expand Metabase's educational reach
- Build and maintain demo projects, sample workflows, and integrations that showcase Metabase's capabilities in practical scenarios
- Develop and execute plans to build, enable, and nurture Metabase's developer community through events, meetups, livestreams, courses, social media, and partnerships
- Show up and be genuinely helpful in the places developers spend time — Slack communities, forums, Reddit, Discord, YouTube, Twitch, and social platforms
- Bring community feedback — friction points, workarounds, complaints, praise, and feature requests — back to engineering, product, and marketing teams in an actionable way
- Track and monitor community health and content performance metrics, assess how well initiatives are achieving their goals, and adjust effort accordingly
Benefits
- Be part of an open source company beloved by tens of thousands of companies
- Opportunity to shape developer education and community strategy from the ground up
- Work with a team that values elegance, simplicity, and honest customer relationships
- Flexibility to work remotely from anywhere in the US
