About this role

We are looking for a Marketing Assistant to join the Random House Children’s Books Marketing team to assist in the development and execution of marketing materials and campaigns across the children’s book list. The team is home to bestselling authors like Suzanne and Max Lang of Grumpy Monkey, R.J. Palacio of Wonder, Nic Stone of Dear Martin, and classics like Dr. Seuss and Richard Scarry. It also includes licensed publishing with Disney and Nickelodeon.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Marketing Assistant will provide operational and administrative support to the Marketing team. This ensures smooth creation and execution of marketing programs, asset coordination, and internal communications. The role supports the overall marketing efforts for children's books.

This position offers the chance to work closely with the entire Marketing team, including Trade and Brand groups, School and Library Marketing, Audience Engagement, Marketing Design, and Outbound Licensing. Collaboration extends to Publicity, Sales, Production, and Editorial departments. It involves cross-team interactions in a dynamic publishing environment.

The role provides exposure to strategic marketing planning and campaign execution in children's publishing. Assistants gain hands-on experience with key dates, meetings, and materials coordination. Opportunities arise to contribute to high-profile book campaigns and team operations.

Requirements

  • Organizational skills for managing planning grids and key dates
  • Experience creating marketing documents and templates
  • Ability to coordinate cross-departmental meetings and materials

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain marketing planning grid seasonally, managing regular updates and changes
  • Create campaign documents, including plan templates, display setup forms, campaign recaps, and other supporting documents
  • Develop and manage departmental key dates, working closely with Publishing to integrate internal marketing dates with cross-team deadlines
  • Schedule and manage seasonal Market Strategy meetings with Sales and Editorial, route key meeting materials and notes
  • Manage printed sales materials process, in close partnership with Managing Editorial
  • Coordinate with the Marketing team to prepare weekly emails and materials for regular meetings
  • Organize departmental meetings as needed, including creation of supplemental meeting materials and note taking
  • Work with sales to establish estimates and orders on displays, merchandising items, and other promotional materials
