About this role

Mob Entertainment, a startup multimedia studio known for the hit indie horror game Poppy Playtime, is seeking a highly skilled Technical Cinematic Designer. This role brings narrative-driven experiences to life using Unreal Engine and Unreal Sequencer.

Day-to-day, you will design, implement, and polish real-time cinematics, collaborating with narrative, animation, gameplay, level design, and VFX teams. You will set up narrative systems like dialogue triggers and branching scenes to support interactive storytelling.

You will work closely with writers, animators, level designers, and engineers in a remote environment. The team is expanding as the franchise grows, with over 100 billion YouTube views of Poppy Playtime content since launch.

This is an opportunity to join a rapidly growing studio and shape cinematic storytelling for one of gaming's hottest new properties. You will help elevate player immersion and emotional engagement through compelling in-game cinematics.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in cinematic or narrative design for games, preferably in AAA or high-quality indie projects.
  • Expert proficiency with Unreal Engine and Level Sequences.
  • Strong understanding of real-time narrative systems, including scripting, triggers, and state machines.
  • Demonstrated ability to create visually compelling cinematic sequences in-engine.
  • Familiarity with Blueprints and/or scripting for cinematic logic and tool creation.
  • Excellent communication and cross-disciplinary collaboration skills.
  • A strong portfolio or reel showcasing cinematic work in Unreal Engine.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and polish real-time cinematics using Unreal Sequencer, including camera work and cinematic transitions.
  • Collaborate with narrative, animation, gameplay, level design, and VFX teams to integrate cinematic sequences seamlessly into Unreal Engine.
  • Set up and maintain narrative systems, such as dialogue triggers, branching scenes, and character states, to support interactive storytelling.
  • Develop and maintain cinematic tools, blueprints, and pipelines that improve workflow efficiency for the team.
  • Troubleshoot and optimize cinematics for performance and stability across multiple platforms.
  • Work with audio teams to sync VO, SFX, and music with cinematic sequences.
  • Provide technical mentorship and documentation for cinematic workflows and tools.
