Segra is searching for a qualified NOC Technician I to join its Columbia, SC network operations center in a full-time hybrid capacity. This role requires three days in the office with flexibility for two remote days weekly. The position serves as the first line of defense for monitoring and managing Segra's network services.

NOC Technicians perform network monitoring of Segra SONET, DWDM, IP, and Ethernet networks while providing in-depth support for transport, IP, Ethernet, and voice services. Responsibilities include triaging customers and alarms, initiating trouble tickets, and delivering timely updates. Prioritize remediation in a 24x7 operations center alongside basic system administration like troubleshooting and scripting.

The NOC functions as an escalation point for other organizations within Segra's dense fiber-optic infrastructure serving over 20,000 locations. Operate in a customer-first environment focused on connectivity, cybersecurity, voice, cloud, and colocation solutions. The team invests in communities through local hiring and network upgrades.

Gain exposure to carrier technologies, dynamic routing, and telephony while resolving incidents empathetically and analytically. Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year of professional experience in networking support, administration, engineering, or similar
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Associate degree or bachelor’s degree preferred but not required
  • Vendor certifications preferred (BTI, Cisco, Ciena, AdTran, Alcatel-Lucent, Fortinet, VeloCloud, etc.)
  • Experience/training on voice and data communication networks and data/wireless communications principles
  • Ability to resolve network and customer-initiated incidents quickly and effectively while communicating in an empathetic manner
  • Self-awareness and willingness to escalate issues and follow up to ensure incident resolution
  • Analytical mindset that appreciates solving problems

Responsibilities

  • Perform network monitoring of the Segra SONET, DWDM, IP and Ethernet networks
  • Provide in-depth support of the SEGRA Transport network, IP and Ethernet networks, and voice services
  • Triage customers, network alarming, initiate trouble tickets, and provide timely and relevant updates to customers
  • Prioritize remediation of issues in a 24 x 7 network operations center
  • Perform basic system administration tasks such as network/system troubleshooting, patching, and utilizing scripts to automate repeatable tasks
  • Serve as an escalation point for other organizations
