About this role

Families in Washington, DC’s Wards 7 and 8 face the city’s highest rates of food insecurity and diet-related chronic disease. Children’s National Hospital offers a produce prescription and nutrition education program to support families facing food access challenges. We seek a Program Assistant to support program delivery and evaluation.

In this role, you will assist staff in the daily execution of program tasks and projects, providing administrative support to the Program Manager and Program Coordinator. Responsibilities include maintaining office files, completing purchase and reimbursement requests, and managing financial records. You will also assist with fundraising by researching funding prospects and drafting communication with prospective donors.

Ideal candidates are passionate about nutrition, health equity, and community-based prevention. Key qualities include compassionate, clear communication with families, a strong customer service mindset, and proactive problem-solving. Bilingual (Spanish) proficiency is preferred.

This is a PRN (as needed), non-benefits eligible position with a commitment of up to 20-30 hours per week. The role offers hands-on involvement in a community-based health program addressing food insecurity, with the opportunity to contribute to meaningful public health initiatives.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED (Required)
  • 1 year performing administrative tasks (Required)
  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Excel, and Access
  • Ability to produce quality reports under tight deadlines
  • Ability to maintain composure and professionalism in a busy clinic environment
  • Bilingual (Spanish) proficiency is preferred
  • Web design and desktop publishing skills a plus
  • Quantitative or qualitative research skills and interest in scholarly work preferred

Responsibilities
