About this role

HSBC is one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world, with operations in 64 countries and territories. We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Senior Software Engineer.

In this role, you will design, develop, test and implement technical solutions based on business requirements and strategic direction. You will interface with business and IT teams to translate business requirements into formal technical requirements and application code.

You will collaborate with other Development teams, Enterprise Architecture and Support teams to design, develop, test and maintain various platforms and their integration with other systems. Regular communication with technical and non-technical groups is expected as part of product and project support.

You will be responsible for production releases and support on a need basis, including peer review, CI/CD pipeline implementation, and service monitoring. You will act as ITSO for the application and must be flexible in working hours, ready to work in shifts and on call.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of mainframe application development experience covering analysis, design, coding, and unit testing.
  • Strong hands-on COBOL development skills.
  • Strong hands-on JCL experience including batch processing, job control, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with VSAM data sets/files.
  • Experience with DB2 including SQL, data access, and performance considerations.
  • Experience with CICS for online transaction processing and support.
  • Proven production support capability including incident troubleshooting, log analysis, timely escalation, and shift/on-call readiness.
  • Good-to-have exposure to Agile/CI-CD tools such as JIRA, Confluence, and Jenkins, as well as IWS Scheduling.
